Zelda BOTW is the Fastest-Selling Launch Game in US
Breath of the Wild is currently the fastest-selling launch game, selling over 1.3 million copies for the Nintendo Switch and Wii-U in a little over a month. Additionally, the Nintendo Switch is the fastest-selling console in the US, and it’s currently outselling both Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Zelda: Breath of the Wild is probably the most hotly-anticipated Zelda game ever. Both critics and general audiences absolutely love it, and I’m certain it’ll take home many more game-of-the-year accolades. Naturally, huge sales quickly followed the hype. According to NDP Group (via VG24/7), the game selling over 1.3 million copies. It moved 925,000 units for the Nintendo Switch and 460,000 on the Wii-U, making it the quickest-selling game in the US.
The Nintendo Switch is also going like crazy. It’s the fastest-selling console in Nintendo’s history, and it’s beating the PS4 and Xbox One in US sales (for now, at least). It sold 906.000 units since the launch on March 3rd. You better believe that Breath of the Wild had something to do with those sales. I mean, the game literally sold more copies than the console did. However, this is probably because many players bought the game before they could get a hold of the console.
It’s no secret that Nintendo’s supply hasn’t been keeping up with the demand. In fact, some people hypothesize that Nintendo is doing this intentionally in order to create even more buzz around the console. Considering the way they handled the now-canceled (dear god, Nintendo, why?!) NES Classic, the theories don’t seem that far-fetched. Whatever Nintendo’s doing, they’re doing it right, as far as the figures are concerned. Now, all that’s left to do is to keep the Switch alive with more good games that preferably aren’t ports.
