What do Breath of the Wild Amiibos Unlock?

Zelda Breath of the Wild has five nifty Amiibos made specially for it, and every one of them gives you some items and weapons to help Link out on his way through Hyrule. Here’s what they are and what each of them does.

  • Link (Archer) – Gives you a chest with a random bow and elemental arrows, meat and fish.
  • Link (Rider) – You’ll get a chest with a saddle and bridle (tools for Link’s horse), mushrooms and weapons (Soldier’s Broadsword).
  • Zelda – It spawns some plants, rare gems and a chest that has a shield inside.
  • Bokoblin – It’ll give you a chest full of Bokoblin weapons and it will also spawn meat.
  • Guardian – Gives you a chest with ancient material, such as guardian weapons, shields, arrows, and machine parts.

There’s a whole host of other Zelda Amiibos that you can also use with Breath of the Wild. These include the Smash Bros. Amiibos such as Twilight Link, the 30th anniversary ones (8-bit and Ocarina of Time Link, and so on). Most of these give you additional items, food, plants, arrows, Blue Rupee and other stuff, but some of them grant a few fun and useful surprises.

Super Smash Bros. Amiibos in BOTW

Of course that Zelda-themed Amiibos from Super Smash Bros. unlock some fun stuff. You can get some exclusive outfit pieces, weapons and shields (all classics featured in previous Zelda games), as well as some useful consumable items, such as arrows and food.

  • Link – It unlocks the exclusive Twilight Link outfit pieces (Twilight Cap, Tunic and Trousers) and it’s how to unlock Epona in Breath of the Wild. It can also drop some random fruit, weapons, shields and ammo.
  • Zelda – There’s a chance you’ll get the exclusive Twilight Bow, but you might also get some random bow from the actual game, as well as rare gems, herbs and vegetables.
  • Sheik – The mysterious figure from Ocarina of Time can grant you the exclusive Sheik Mask, but there’s also a chance that you’ll get the Shield of the Mind’s Eye random Sheikah swords, arrows and mushrooms.
  • Ganondorf – This Amiibo gets you various claymores, gems, monster parts, as well as arrows and rupees. Its exclusive is the Sword of the Six Sages.
  • Toon Link – Scanning the Super Smash Bros. Toon Link can get you pieces of the exclusive Wind Waker outfit (Cap, Tunic and Trousers), as well as the famous Sea-Breeze Boomerang. However, you might also receive fish, broadswords and elemental arrows.

Legend of Zelda 30th Anniversary Amiibo Drops

The 30th Anniversary set was released as a celebration of the original Legend of Zelda. Each figure gives you very special exclusive items from the classic Zelda games, such as the first one, Ocarina of Time, and Wind Waker. Like with the previous sets, you can also get useful items and weapons.

  • 8-bit Link – The Amiibo of the original Link can grant you the outfit pieces of his exclusive classic Hero costume (Cap, Tunic and Trousers) as well as his first sword. You also have the chance to get random swords, elemental arrows, shields and even rupees.
  • Ocarina of Time Link – Apart from meat, elemental arrows and claymores, you might also get the Ocarina of Time Cap, Tunic or Trousers, as well as Biggoron’s Sword.
  • Wind Waker Toon Link – Apart from all the exclusive items that the Super Smash Bros. Amiibo can drop (Wind Waker outfit bits and boomerang), there’s also a chance it’ll drop random weapons (boomerangs and swords), fish and elemental arrows.
  • Wind Waker Toon Zelda – This Amiibo has a chance of dropping a random shield, herbs, vegetables and rare gems, as well as the exclusive Hero Shield.

Other Amiibos in BOTW

You can also scan various figures that aren’t a part of the sets above. So far, the only one we know of that does something interesting is Wolf Link, as you’ll see below.

  • Wolf Link – This Amiibofrom Twilight Princess gives you Wolf Link as a companion. To find out how, check out our Breath of the Wild Wolf Link guide.
  • Other Amiibos – Scanning any non-Zelda Amiibo will just grant you random consumables, which can still prove to be very useful.

A huge thank-you to Reddit user ShugoTakahashi.

In the video below, you can watch some of the Amiibos in action.

Zelda Amiibo Exploit

Since what you get from some Amiibos is somewhat random, it might happen that you won’t get what you wanted. However, the problem now is that you have to wait 24 hours before you can use the Amiibo again. Fortunately, GameFAQ user MV6000 might have found an exploit to work around that.

The first thing you need to do is make sure that you turned on the Amiibo function in the options. That way, it becomes classed as a rune ability. Next up, save your game before you scan the Amiibo. Then, go ahead and use the Amiibo. Open the chest and, if you didn’t get what you wanted, just reload the save.

Some people say that this works, while others have reported that it didn’t work for them, so, your results may vary. Reddit user mattsm08 has a similar strategy that might work better. Once you scan an amiibo, save and close the game. Disconnect from the internet and move the date on the console forward by a day. Get back into the game and scan the amiibo again. It’s arduous, but the drop rates are very low, so there’s no helping that.
