The Witcher 3 Gwent Cards List

Gwent cards are special playing cards used in an ancient dwarven game in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Gwent is a competitive sport in the Northern Realms, so you’ll need a great deck and a quick wit to beat some of the stronger players.

To build a great deck, you’ll need to collect rare cards. In this guide, we’re going to show you all the Gwent cards, their effects and locations. We also have a general Gwent guide for newcomers.

You can also check out our new guides – Gwent Players and Merchants and Gwent Strategy Guide.

witcher 3 gwent cards
There are four faction decks to choose from when playing: the Northern Realms, the Nilfgaardian Empire, the Scoia’tael and the Monsters. There are also neutral cards, which you can put in any deck. Each faction has its own unique cards, passive perks and leader abilities. You can unlock new cards by doing quests, buying them from vendors and finding them throughout the world.

Innkeeper Elsa – White Orchard Gwent Card Purchase Location

Well, I am just going to use this as a checklist to see which ones I don’t have still. My collectors edition stratagy guide of the game might show some wear and tear, but there’s no way I am going to mark in it just so I know which qwent cards I don’t have yet.

Medic doesn’t cancel muster- muster by definition can only happen once per game as the cards have all been played and can’t be pulled from discard through muster. But if somehow you got two like muster cards back to your hand it would play them all. It’s just that this power can’t pull what is no longer available. So the medic reinstigates special abilities when they are applicable- just can’t revive hero cards. On a different note- I can’t seem to find enough monster cards to even make a full deck 🙁 and getting more than two tight bond cards adds the attack to the total each time – e.g. 4 to 8 to 12 to 16 (1,2,3,4 like cards). I got 4 northern tight bond cards. Also using decoy on your medic can help pull multiple cards from discard- I pull my tight bond cards to get two plays out of them. It’s a lifesaver.

Thank you so much, was going to snap the disk in half if I thought I had to play through for a third time (I love the game, but not that much) . Needed 1 card, and found it exactly where you said it would be.
And screw the Nay Sayers, its a great list for finding cards as most people will be using it for, not as the tubes seem to think its so important to state that the spy shags the medic – medic sucks off the muster…..

  10. D
    Darren

Excellent list! Thank you for your hard work!

There are so many cards that one can get from a random win. Someone should put together a list of the merchants/NPCs that distribute a random win. That way the people looking to 100% their Gwent deck can just go down a checklist. Even better, a map like IGN has for all the different places of interest, but a map for all the random card distributors. Just my $0.02.

Has anyone had any trouble getting the Wyvern card? It says random but I don’t think that’s true because I’ve basically beaten everyone you can play and that’s the last card I need. Haven’t gotten it. Reloaded twice and beat ten people in a row, still no card.

In the quest “A Matter of Life and Death” there are 3 gwent cards, Dandelion, Milva, and Vampire: Bruxa. After this quest is done these three cards are unobtainable. How likely is there to be a patch to make these cards obtainable after the quest is complete for players who want to collect all the cards.

    1. S

You get the cards at that time..

A question: can you receive multiples of each card? I only have the one catapult that I purchased from White Orchard, but its tight bond ability is useless without another catapult card. Can you buy or win more of them elsewhere?

    1. A
      Andrew

I got a second Catapult card from the Madam at the Passiflora in Novigrad. She had it for sale. Equally, I have 4 or 5 Mahakaman Defenders because I just auto-buy all cards any merchant has for sale. So the answer to your question is yes you can get multiples of cards but I believe it is just luck based depending on which cards a merchant happens to have stocked.

Also, the same issue can be applied to Crinfrid Reavers Dragon Hunter car which has Tight Bond yet I have only ever seen one of.

I have had an innkeeper in Skellige play a Neutral Card called “Mysterious Elf”. Details….

    Name: Mysterious Elf
    Faction: Neutral
Type: Hero (can’t remember the range)
    Strength: 0
    Ability: Spy

Easily the best spy card in the game, since even a monster deck could use it and of course the 0 strength is nice. While I did get to use it once with a dummy card, unfortunately the innkeeper did not drop it and no idea how you obtain it. (guess I will get a screenshot if I ever see it again).

    1. M
      May

The “Mysterious Elf” card is in fact the Avallac’h neutral card (Gremita, Gedyneith, Skellige).

I guess it only depends on the version of the game you have since, in French, it is always “Mysterious Elf” and never “Avallac’h” even after I completed the main quest where we discover who he really is.

      1. M
        Matthew Rumsey

its the dlc that changes its name. Not the knowledge of who he is

Joshua you didn’t get to use the Elf with a dummy card.. you can’t “dummy” unique cards.

I imagine you found it already but you will receive it if you continue playing any of the Gwent quests that ask of you to win rare cards from the various players in the world.

  15. D
    Dusnt Meter

Somebody has probably said it, but :
    1) Philippa is Ranged type, not Siege.
    2) Dandelion doesn’t have morale, he doesn’t add 1 to strength, he doubles it in his row – it’s called “Commander’s Horn” ability.
    3) Scorch doesn’t do what you say it does, it destroys the strongest (non-hero) card(s). (The (s) meaning if there’s more cards of highest value it destroys all of them)
The Villentretenmerth card also doesn’t have the exact Scorch ability, his ability means “Destroy your enenmy’s strongest Close combat unit(s) if the combined strength of all his or her close combat units is 10 or more” taken straight from the game.
    4) Also should mention that muster takes cards from both deck and hand and plays them, and that they don’t always match with the whole name, but more likely a type (e.g. any Vampire plays also all other Vampire, whether it’s a Garkain or a Bruxa. Arachas also summon the Arachas Behemoth card and the three Crones are in another group).
    5) Should mention the fact that once an Agile card is placed, it can’t be moved into other row.
It’s still a great list and you are awesome, thanks.

    1. D
      Darren

Also, I feel that the Medic definition of “no special cards” should be modified. And I mean on the game as well, not just on this site. It’s not obvious until you see another player do these or try them yourself. (I use the word “revive” because it’s easier and shorter than saying, “choose another card from the discard pile.” )

      1. A medic can “revive” a medic, which will allow the player to revive another
      2. A spy card that is revived by a medic allows the player to draw 2 cards
      3. When a medic revives a muster card, only the card chosen will be played; the muster ability works only one time
      4. Morale Boost… while you probably wouldn’t do this, you can revive and use a morale boost
      5. Dandelion’s Commander’s Horn will be activated again when he is revived
      6. I haven’t tried Agile, but I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t be able to choose which line the revived Agile card goes on. Can anyone verify?
      7. Tight Bond most certainly works after being revived and placed next to one another

So the statement of “no heroes or special cards” should actually be “all non-hero cards can be played and all special abilities other than muster will work when the card is revived.”

      1. D
        Darren

I just realized that the phrase “special card” specifically refers to cards you’re only allowed to have 10 of in your deck: Weather, Decoy, Scorch and Commander’s Horn. The cards I spoke of are not special cards, but cards with abilities. I still think that it should be pointed out – both on the game and on this site – that every ability other than Muster will work when revived.

Also, I don’t want to spam this board any more than I already have so I’ll just point it out here: Saw a tiny mistake in the Scoia’tael Deck. The Havekar Smuggler is not a Spy, it’s ability is Muster.
