The Commander of the Oxenfurt City Regiment requests that you slay a monster within the city walls.
Walkthrough
Following contains quest spoilers. You’ve been warned
Talk to the Redanian officer.
Head to the docks in Oxenfurt and talk to Nikolas Friedman, an officer. He’ll tell you that the beast has been killing lone people on the streets and dumping their corpses in the gutters. Barter for a better price if you so desire, then head to the medic who performed the autopsies.
Talk to the medic.
You’ll find the morgue to the south from the officer, on the sandy dockside. Talk to the medic to learn that he hasn’t performed the autopsies yet, as the victims were only drunkards and beggars. Be more persuasive and he’ll give you the key to the morgue and tell you to examine the bodies yourself.
Look over the victims’ bodies.
You’ll find two bodies inside. Use your Witcher Senses to find the following:
- fang marks on the neck, evidence that the body was dragged over cobblestones
- vampire bites and strong smell of alcohol
Talk to the witnesses.
Head to The Alchemy Tavern in the square in the center of town. Find the woman crying by the bar, approach her. You’ll have two options:
Choice 1
Buy her a drink.
This will cost you 30 Crowns. She’ll tell you that something called out her name and grabbed the hem of her skirt before she ran away. You’ll also learn out where the attack took place.
Choice 2
Convince her that she doesn’t need alcohol.
You need Axii Delusion Level 3 for this. She’ll tell you that something called out her name and grabbed the hem of her skirt before she ran away. You’ll also learn out where the attack took place.
Talk to the innkeep and get drunk in order to bait the katakan.
Go back to the tavern and look for the innkeeper. You should now get drunk so that you will be able to lure the katakan.
When night falls, leave the tavern and stagger around the objective area, singing a drinking song. No sign of the katakan. Move to the next objective area and sing the second part of the song. Nothing yet.
Head to the third objective area. It is an alley between two expensive houses up the street. You’ll hear a voice rasp that it wants your blood. Your enemy is finally here.
When night falls, leave the tavern and stagger around the objective area, singing a drinking song. No sign of the katakan. Move to the next objective area and sing the second part of the song. Nothing yet.
Head to the third objective area. It is an alley between two expensive houses up the street. You’ll hear a voice rasp that it wants your blood. Your enemy is finally here.
Use your Witcher Senses to track down the katakan.
The katakan will push you to the ground and flee. To get to the objective area, go across the town square and head north to a hut by the river. You’ll be able to “see” the katakan’s movements, allowing you to reach the hut. Go up the ladder next to the alleyway, up to the balcony, then jump down into the building for the final showdown.
Kill the katakan.
Read the bestiary for combat tips. The katakan if vulnerable to Moon Dust and Devil’s Puffbal bombs; Vampire oil; and Igni and Yrden signs.
Take a trophy.
Once you’ve killed the katakan, loot its body to take the key to unlock the shack. There will be some other items of interest as well. Take the trophy to Nikolas Friedman and tell him that a higher vampire was in the city. Take your reward and the quest will end.
