Valheim Can't Connect to Server Solution
After the recent update, a lot of people are having issues in Valheim. A number of players have complained about being unable to join their regular servers. These are teething problems – the game is still in early access, after all – but that doesn’t make them any more annoying. Thankfully, there’s an easy way around them. This guide will show you Valheim can’t connect to server solution, so you can keep playing with your friends.
Valheim failed to connect error
This error usually pops up around the time when the game gets an update, so the first thing you should do is check whether your game is up to date. You can do this by right-clicking on it in the Steam library, then selecting Properties. Under Update, check to see when it was last updated.
If everything is fine on that front, you should make sure the server is also updated. You (or the friend running the server) should check out this guide if you want an easy way to automate server updates.
Since this usually happens when the update is fresh out of the oven, you might have to wait a while for others to update the game as well. That’s just the wait things go with early access multiplayer games.
Finally, you could make the game connect to your preferred server automatically as soon as it launches – this will let you get around the join game screen that so many people are getting stuck on. To do this, right click on the game in the Steam library, then select Properties. You’ll see a text box marked “launch options” under the General tab. In that box, you should enter “+connect ServerIPAddress:PortNumber”, without the quotation marks (replace ServerIPAddress with your server’s IP, and PortNumber with the corresponding port number).
