Until Dawn Prequel The Inpatient Release Date & Story Trailer Revealed
Sony has announced the launch date of The Inpatient on PSVR in a new story trailer. The Inpatient is a prequel to Until Dawn, set sixty years before the events of the first game. It will come out on November 21st. It takes place in Blackwood Sanatorium. You’re in the role of an amnesiac, trying to remember why they’re in an insane asylum, and all your choices will change the course of the story.
When Until Dawn launched in 2015, it became somewhat of a surprise hit. The game’s core premise, which it tended to shove down the player’s throat, was the butterfly effect. Basically, any decision that you made would affect the game’s outcome, sometimes in the most convoluted ways. Still, it was an interesting mechanic. The other thing that the game did that fans loved was to shove every single horror cliche that it could. All but one where explored in detail – the spooky asylum. Now, the prequel The Inpatient is here to fix that.
The Inpatient is coming out on November 21st, and, like Until dawn, will be a PS4 exclusive. However, you’ll need a PSVR headset to play it properly. This will come with some interesting mechanics, though. According to Gamespot, not only will you be able to see your character’s body when you look down, but NPCs will react if you’re too loud. You, as in the player. Even though it’s a prequel, set sixty years before Until Dawn, it is a whole new story, so you don’t have to play the first game in order to follow it. Of course, choices will still play a very important part of the game. Here’s what the game’s description says:
Over the course of the game you’ll meet a variety of interesting patients and staff, each with their own motivations and agendas. How you react to these characters and the choices you make will have profound and dramatic consequences for how the story unfolds.
The Inpatient also got a story trailer, which you can check out below. It doles out very little information, only snippets to get you interested.
Is Supermassive allergic to money? UD fans have been dying for something next and they screw all the fans by making it VR?
Excellent question. I doubt it has much to do with Supermassive, though. Looks more to me like Sony just wants to push PSVR sales.
