Street Fighter 5 Arcade Edition Announced for Early 2018
Capcom has announced a new version of Street Fighter 5. It’s called Arcade Edition, and it will launch in January, 2018. The new edition will contain new modes, several redesigns, and DLC characters from Seasons 1 and 2.
To the surprise of probably nobody, Capcom has announced a new edition of Street Fighter V. The Arcade Edition, as it’s called, will come out on January 16th, 2018, and you’ll be able to purchase it for $40. It comes as a kind of celebration of the franchise’s thirtieth birthday. The main things this version of the game will add are two new modes and all the DLC characters from Season 1 and Season 2. Which two modes? Why, the Extra Battle Mode and the long-requested Arcade Mode! On top of that, you’ll also get a Gallery, a redesigned UI, and a second V-Trigger. Those of you that have purchased Street Fighter 5 previously, don’t worry, you’ll get everything that’s in the Arcade Edition, too, and for free. Except for the DLC characters, unfortunately. Those you’ll still have to pay for. Needless to say, this has rubbed some early adopters the wrong way, but that’s just the way the cookie crumbles.
So, what exactly can you expect from these new modes and features? Well, according to Capcom (via Polygon), Arcade Mode will be something of a throwback to the olden days of Street Fighter. You’ll have a choice between six different paths, which will then unlock several different endings based on your performance. Extra Battle Mode will offer “a series of time exclusive challenges”, where you can spend Fight Money for a chance to get an exclusive premium costume each month. If you complete all four challenges in one month, and you’ll get an exclusive premium costume.
Capcom also released a short announcement trailer for Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition. It quickly shows you some of the stuff that you’ll be able to enjoy, if you choose to buy the new edition. You can check out the video below.
