How to Kill Plague Hearts in State of Decay 2?

To kill a Plague Heart in State of Decay 2, you’ll need some pretty powerful weapons, some decoys, a vehicle, and some back up. Destroying Plague Hearts boils down to wailing on it until it dies, but that’s much more easier said than done. Plague Hearts can take a lot of damage, and they will summon hordes of zombies to its aid. Plus, every heart will get increasingly more difficult. So, we’re going to show you how we managed to do destroy Plague Hearts.

First, the preparations. Do survivor missions, the ones you get over the radio. Wait until you get a mission where two people will join you. From there, you can go clean plague hearts with the two of them wherever you want; you don’t have to complete their missions. Make sure you pick them both up in a vehicle that has enough room for everyone. As far as weapons go, you’re going to need bombs and Molotov cocktails, and plenty. Also, any powerful weapons will come in handy (the .50 Caliber is an absolute beast that can sometimes kill a Plague Heart in three shots). Lastly, you’re going to need decoys. Fire crackers, fireworks, boomboxes, whatever you have.

Now, for the battle. Drive over to a Plague Heart with the two survivors you picked up earlier. Use the decoys to get rid of the zombies, and let the NPCs deal with them. Chuck the molotovs and bombs at the plague heart (you can wait for one fire to go out before throwing another). When the heart calls for backup, wait until they come near, then use another decoy to drive them away. If you want to take care of them easily, wait until they congregate at the decoy, then run them over with your car.

When the game lets you know that the Plague Heart is almost dead, you can just melee it to death. It’s worth noting that, if you do have a very powerful weapon, you can save on some molotovs. Use your judgement. All the while, be sure not to get bitten by the zombies or step into the cloud of gas the Heart emits, because that gets the plague meter up very quickly.
