Ubisoft Forward 2023 Showcase Reveals First Glimpses of Star Wars Outlaws Gameplay
The Ubisoft Forward 2023 showcase is now behind us. However, fans of the celebrated videogame publisher have a lot of reasons to be excited about the future. Among other things, we’ve seen Assassin’s Creed Mirage gameplay showcase and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora gameplay overview. However, the most exciting reveal for Star Wars fans was the highly anticipated Ubisoft’s Star Wars open-world game. Called Star Wars: Outlaws, the game puts us in the role of Kay Vess, “a scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life”.
“Experience the first-ever open-world Star Wars game, set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi,” reads the press release. “Explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. Risk it all as Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy’s most wanted.”
Aside from the cinematic story trailer, we also got to watch around 11 minutes of gameplay. We learned from the showcase that Outlaws is a third-person narrative-driven action-adventure shooter. Our first impression is that the game draws inspiration from games such as GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Jedi Fallen Order. Of course, given that Massive Entertainment is the main developer, there are some elements of The Division games, like the distinct cover mechanic. Outlaws also features vehicle chases, dog fights in space, and story-focused RPG elements with meaningful dialogue options. Star Wars: Outlaws will launch in 2024, with more details to arrive at a later date. For more information, check out the official website.
