Star Wars Battlefront 2 Character Unlocks Causing Uproar
Players are up in arms about the hero unlocks in Star Wars Battlefront 2. Specifically, how long it takes to unlock a single hero through just playing the game and earning credits. To purchase the most expensive ones, such as Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, it’d take an average player about forty hours of grinding.
Let’s be honest, we all knew that EA’s new progression and unlock system in Star Wars Battlefront 2 was going to cause problems. However, I’m not sure anybody could have predicted just how bad things would get. Players that have played the ten-hour trial version did the math, and things are kinda bleak. According to a Reddit post by TheHotterPotato, it will take you up to 40 hours to unlock heroes.
The post provides a link to the spreadsheet, but here’s a quick breakdown. The average Galactic Assault match lasts a little over 11 minutes and rewards you with an average of 275 credits. This gives us an average of about 25 credits per minute. This adds up to about 2.5 hours to buy a Trooper Crate, and a whopping 40 hours to purchase the most expensive heroes, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader (60.000 credits each). Other heroes are cheaper, but still, the grind up to 40.000 credits or however much the hero you’re gunning for costs. And here’s the thing: even those that bought the $80 Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition have to grind to buy Vader and Luke. Oh, but, you don’t have to grind, do you? No, of course not, you can always just reach into your wallet and pony up real world money to get around it. And that’s the whole point, isn’t it?
The EA Community Team took to Reddit with a post attempting to explain the situation. According to them, as far as the credits go: “We’re looking at the results daily and will be continuing to tune this to ensure that players feel a meaningful sense of reward for the time they spend with Battlefront 2.” The same foes for earning heroes through credits. WE can only hope that this turns out to be true.
