How to Revive Kelvin Sons of the Forest, Kelvin Respawn
Kelvin is one of the two companions in Sons of the Forest. He is the only other survivor of the crash besides you and is the first person you interact with on the island. As a companion, he can be instructed to do things such as make a fire, gather materials, and so on, making him a very useful addition to the game. Players that have accidentally gotten him killed are wondering how to get Kelvin back. Can you respawn Kelvin and Virginia or are they gone forever? Luckily, there is a way to do this, though it requires that you mess around with editing the game files. Needless to say, this isn’t an official method, so do this at your own risk. With that said, let’s see how to revive Kelvin and Virginia in Sons of the Forest.
How to Revive Kelvin in Sons of the Forest – Respawn Kelvin
As of right now, the only way you can respawn Kelvin in the game is by editing some game files. Needless to say, you should only attempt this if you are absolutely sure that you know what you’re doing. And even if you do, there’s no guarantee that you won’t end up making your game unplayable or cause some other problems or bugs. Because of that, we recommend that you make a copy for every file that you are going to edit here. This is so that you can replace them with the original in case something goes wrong. Also, this method won’t work if the body has disappeared. And with that disclaimer out of the way, let’s get into the process itself:
- Step #1: Find the Sons of the Forest save files. By default, these should be here “AppData\LocalLow\Endnight\SonsOfTheForest\Saves”.
- Step #2: In here, find the GameStateSaveData.json file and then open it in Notepad. Change “IsRobbyDead\”:true” to “IsRobbyDead\”:false”. Save the file.
- Step #3: Next, find and open the SaveData.json in Notepad. Search for “TypeId\”:9″. Immediately below it, you’ll find the “\”State\”:6″ value, which you need to change to “State\”:2″. Find “Health\”:0.0″ and change it to “Health\”:100.0″. Save the file.
- Step #4: Start the game. If you have done everything correctly, Kelvin should once again be alive in the game.
You can also do this for Virginia as well. Here’s how:
- Step #1: Find the Sons of the Forest save files. By default, these should be here “AppData\LocalLow\Endnight\SonsOfTheForest\Saves”.
- Step #2: In here, find the GameStateSaveData.json file and then open it in Notepad. Change “IsVirginiaDead\”:true” to “IsVirginiaDead\”:false”. Save the file.
- Step #3: Next, find and open the SaveData.json in Notepad. Search for “TypeId”\10”. Immediately below it, you’ll find the “\”State\”:6″ value, which you need to change to “State\”:2″. Find “Health\”:0.0″ and change it to “Health\”:100.0″. Save the file.
- Step #4: Start the game. If you have done everything correctly, Virginia should once again be alive in the game.
We’d like to thank Reddit user arnoldochavez for figuring out how to do this. You can see the Reddit thread where they explain the entire process here. And if you are unsure about how this looks like in action, you can refer to this YouTube video by Richie Po.
I don’t have TypeId\”:9 when I search my savedata file
Actually, there’s a way to bring back Virginia even if her body disappears.
You have to start new game to generate new save file, then go to that save, open file named “SaveData.json” and copy the whole line regarding Virginia, it should start with: {\”UniqueId\”:880,\”TypeId\”:10 …and end with… “StateFlags\”:0}
Then, open the same file in your current save, paste the line somewhere inbetween other entries (between “StateFlags\”:0} and {\”UniqueId\.
After that copy the position info from Kelvin in “TypeId\”:9 ; the bracket “Position” should look like this:
“Position\”:{\”x\”:-217.8274,\”y\”:398.634674,\”z\”:-99.8599854},\”Rotation\”:{\”x\”:0.0,\”y\”:0.8433716,\”z\”:0.0,\”w\”:0.537330747}
The last thing is to use the Find tool and locate “TypeId\”:10 at the very end of the file and change “PlayerKilled\”:1} to “PlayerKilled\”:0}
Remember to pay attention to brackets, commas etc. and you should have the odd-footed gal back where Kelvin was standing in your save 😉 She will be a little bit shy though, as she was at the beginning of the game.
Works Everytime! You sir are the real MVP… just follow along and use the first state 6 after typId\9
Thanks! Worked perfectly for me. Virginia kept weeping over an area of small trees and I couldn’t figure out why. I finally figured out that it was Kelvin’s body in the middle of some bushes. I’m thinking he was a victim of a workplace safety incident. Logging is dangerous, after all.
Kelvin keeps dying to trees falling on him, and no revive option! I followed the instructions exactly and he ether just stands there with no interaction available or he’s just gone off the map entirely as well as Virginia. Do you think you could make a ty vid tutorial cuz, can’t even play one day without him being perma dead…
Hey, so this came right on time. Kelvin died and this would be my only option to bring him back but it doesn’t quite work for me. He is just standing there and I can’t interact with him.
Is it because “\”State\”:6″ wasn’t immediately below … “TypeId\”:9″? Between “TypeId\”:9″ and “\”State\”:6″ is
“TypeId\”:9,\”FamilyId\”:0,\”Position\”:{\”x\”:1351.97119,\”y\”:180.413391,\”z\”:557.722351},\”Rotation\”:{\”x\”:0.0,\”y\”:-0.9821543,\”z\”:0.0,\”w\”:0.188076988},\”SpawnerId\”:0,\”ActorSeed\”:818875866,\”VariationId\”:-1,\”State\”:6, …
Thanks in advance! 🙂
For me it didnt work hes just gone and i cant even find his boy anymore
