Sea of Thieves Cursed Sails Launch Date Revealed

Rare is continuing to buff Sea of Thieves with brand new content. True, when the game came out, it had about as much stuff to do as a game in early access, but it’s getting increasingly fuller. One such major update is coming out on July 31st. Cursed Sails is going to be “the most substantial update yet,” according to the announcement on the Sea of Thieves website. And, yes, the update is going to be free for all of you that own Sea of Thieves.

The main hook of the Cursed Sails DLC are hostile ships full of skeletons. Once the update drops, you’ll never really be safe on the sea. Before, a ship you see could was usually another player crew, which may or may not be hostile towards you. With Cursed Sails, any ship that appears on the horizon could end up being a gang of bloodthirsty skeletons. Now, do I wish they would add an enemy type that isn’t even more skeletons? Yes, of course. But, hey, it’s something. The update will add some new stuff to help you out, such as the Brigantine ship tailored for a crew of three, and the Alliance system to encourage different player crews to band together. Both will be permanent additions to the game.

There will also be new lore, and a limited-time campaign which will introduce the new elements of Cursed Sails (and earn you some nifty rewards). Of course, the ships chock-full of undead will stay even after the campaign is over, so don’t worry, you won’t miss out on the action.
