Red Dead Redemption 2 PC System Requirements Revealed

Red Dead Redemption 2 is finally coming to PC this November. Following the announcement, Rockstar quickly started listing all the bells and whistles the port is going to have, but they never mentioned what kind of monster machine it’s going to require. Turns out, not so much of a monster, really. Both the minimum and the recommended specs are what you’d expect, apart from the HDD space requirements. Those are pretty appalling, to be honest. Read on for a system requirements breakdown, along with some more assorted info.

The specifications were spotted in the Rockstar Game Launcher, on the RDR2 page, so they’re as official as they can be. Here’s what you’ll need under the hood if you want to enjoy the story of Arthur Morgan riding across the prairie painfully slowly:

Minimum:
OS: Windows 7 Service Pack 1
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K / AMD FX-6300
RAM: 8GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 2GB / AMD Radeon R9 280 3GB
HDD: 150GB

Recommended:
OS: Windows 10
CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K / AMD Ryzen 5 1500X
RAM: 12GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB / AMD Radeon RX 480 4GB
HDD: 150GB

If you don’t mind playing on lower graphical settings, you’re going to be able to run it even on a 5+ year old rig. That’s pretty reassuring, but the 150GB of required space is not. It makes no difference to people still sticking to regular HDDs (except if they’re on a metered connection), but SSD users are going to have a bit of trouble with this one. I don’t think I know anyone with an SSD with 150GB to spare. On the other hand, it’s not like there are a lot of loading screens in RDR2. The open world is seamless, so having to sit through only a couple of them when you start the game shouldn’t be too jarring. It beats buying a new SSD just for this one game.

If it's collectibles or key items you're after, we've found all the Penny Dreadful comic books, Chick's treasure map location, or that famous pipe for Dutch. Finally, if you don't care to explore the map yourself, you could take a look at our Watson's Cabin and Catfish Jackson's Homestead locations guides. In the latest Red Dead Online Moonshiners Update you'll have a chance to find Navy Revolver and Best Shack Locations.
