Red Dead Redemption 2 Launch Might Not Happen before April 2018

Rockstar announced yesterday that Red Dead Redemption won’t come out this fall as previously announced. Now, we know that it will come out some time in Spring 2018. However, if Take Two’s financial report for the last fiscal year is anything to go by, it probably won’t come out before April.

Many fans of both westerns and Rockstar games were disappointed by the announcement that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be delayed for several months. The new launch window for the sequel to the popular open-world action adventure set in the Wild West is Spring 2018. To be sure, this is a fairly wide window. However, taking a closer look at Take Two’s latest news release let’s us narrow the window somewhat. Unfortunately, it seems that the game won’t be coming out in March. The bullet point in question reads:

[Rockstar Games] Announced that Red Dead Redemption 2® is now planned for release worldwide in Spring 2018 (fiscal year 2019) for PlayStation4 and Xbox One.

The key part here is “fiscal year 2019”. What this basically means is that Red Dead Redemption 2 probably won’t see the light of day before April 2018. That is, of course, if there aren’t any further delays, which might still happen. After all, Rockstar has a track record of pushing release dates. While that can be a little frustrating, at least they never rush half-complete, broken games out the door.

The reason that Rockstar gave for the delay is that they need more time to make the game as perfect as possible. It seems that RDR 2 is the first game they’re building from the ground up for this console generation. Because of that, it’s only normal that they’d need more time to polish everything out.

Once it comes out, Red Dead Redemption 2 will be available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
