Camp upgrades in Red Dead Redemption 2 make your hideout more useful, and more hospitable. Some of them are there just for comfort, to increase the morale of your comrades, while others offer practical benefits, like the ability to craft better items or have more horses. The system that allows you to upgrade your camp isn’t obvious enough, which is why we’ve written this guide on how to upgrade camp in Red Dead Redemptions 2.
Camp upgrades in RDR2
In order to start upgrading your camp, you’ll have to find a little green book with the word “ledger” written on the cover. It’s usually near Dutch’s tent, right next to the donation box. Interact with the ledger, and you’ll be presented with a bunch of upgrade options.
They’re divided into several categories – medicine, provisions, ammo & arms, lodging and other. When you buy upgrades in the first four categories, you’ll have to go in a certain order – first you get the essential provisions, like bread and biscuits, then you upgrade your diet with fresh fruit and basic canned goods. The last category (“other”) is the exception – it will list upgrades that can be bought in any order, with no prerequisites.
The pages dedicated to food, ammo and medicine allow you to restock your supplies using money, too. When you upgrade the lodgings enough, you’ll get access to a map that allow free fast travel. Then there are upgrades like the horse station, which allows you to have more horses in the camp, the chicken coop, which lets you have chickens, leather working tools, which allow Pearson to craft more intricate stuff for you, and even a boat.
All of them are undeniably useful, but the order in which you unlock them depends on your preferences and playing style. Any money spent on camp ugprades is a dime well spent, so just think about what you need the most and start investing.
