How to clean your horse in RDR 2 is a very important question. You’ll get a message that your horse is dirty in Red Dead Redemption 2 sooner or later. Which then leaves us to wonder what to do when your horse is dirty. Fortunately, there are several ways to approach this problem. Less fortunately, the game doesn’t really make it immediately apparent how to clean your horse. That’s where we come in. How to Clean Horse in RDR2 – What to do When Horse is Dirty?
To clean your dirty horse in Red Dead Redemption 2, you have several options. If your horse is dirty in RDR 2, for one, you can simply ride or lead your horse into a deep enough body of water. Basically, if it’s about deep enough to the horse’s neck or so, that should be good enough to do the trick.
The other thing you can do is brush your horse on the go. All you have to do is dismount and approach your horse. Hold L2 to bring up the horse menu. Once in that menu, hit Left on the D-pad to brush your horse. The only catch is that you have to unlock the RDR 2 horse brush first. We’ll explain how to do that in the section below.
Lastly, you can just go to the stable and groom your horse there. However, going to stables is not always going to be an option. This is especially true if you’re exploring the great American wilderness, far away from any civilization. Bodies of water and just good old horse-brushing will be your best options.
How to Unlock & Get Red Dead Redemption 2 Horse Brush?
To unlock the horse brush in Red Dead Redemption 2, you have to complete the Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego quest. You can get the quest from Hosea, starting Chapter 2, when your gang establishes their camp. During the quest, you can pick up your RDR 2 War Horse pre-order bonus, and you’ll be prompted to split up or leave bait for a bear at one point. During this quest, you’re going to unlock the horse brush.
We noticed that we got the horse brush at the very end of the quest. So, it’s best that you just run through the quest (as if you’d quit mid-way for no reason); that way, you’ll be absolutely certain that you have the brush. After you complete the quest, approach your horse and hold L2 to bring up the options. You should have the Brush option unlocked now.
