Red Dead Redemption 2 Buy & Change Mask
Masks are accessories in Red Dead Redemption 2. They’re like hats in many ways – they’re part of your outfit, but they’re still a category of their own. You can store them on the horse separately from clothes and use them whenever you like. They occupy the bandana slot there. A lot of players are having trouble obtaining masks, or changing them after they’ve bought them. Our Red Dead Redemption 2 buy & change mask guide will show you how they work and where to get them.
Where to buy masks in RDR2?
At first glance, it might seem like masks would be sold at clothing stores. However, thanks to their illicit use (the game doesn’t hide the fact you can use them to commit crimes and hide your identity), you shouldn’t expect proper stores to stock them. Instead, look for a fence at one of the fence locations. There’s several of them across the map, and all of them will gladly sell you masks. However, don’t expect the masks to do their job – like bandanas, they do not actually hide your identity or stop you from getting the wanted status.
How to change masks in RDR2?
Once you’ve bought several masks, you’ll need a way to swap them. Go to any wardrobe – like the one in Arthur’s tent at the camp – and open the masks submenu. Select the ones you’d like to use and store them at the horse (square on PS4, X on Xbox). Now that you’ve got them all picked, go to the horse and open the weapon wheel.
Use R1/RB to navigate to the horse wheel, and you’ll find the masks in the bottom half, left of the outfits (in the bandana slot). You can use L2 and R2 (LT and RT) to cycle between the masks you’ve stored on your horse. Once you’ve found the one you want, simply release L1 (LB). The menu will close and your mask will be equipped.

why tf you cannot write normal key bindings like keyboard and leave fckn controllers?
For those of you still wondering, you ‘cannot’ replace your neckerchief with your newly purchased mask, the mask can ONLY be equipped via. the horse saddle menu. And no this does not pop up in the top left corner to tell you that you’re being screwed over with essentially (in-game false advertisement).
To get your hat back just simply go back to your horse, they will magically reappear in your horse storage because that’s apparently realistic…
I bought the metal mask from the store, when I got out of the interaction I was automatically wearing it and my cowboy hat was gone, I couldn’t figure out to remove the mask except by putting on the bandana, and now my mask and cowboy hat are both missing. This game either has appalling UI or is full of bugs, can’t tell for sure yet.
Or you didn’t pay attention when the game told you how to get your mask and hat back once you removed them.
If you know how it it’s supposed to work, why not try and be helpful for the several people clearly having problems?
You can change your bandana/mask when you look at the inventory of your horse. I can choose between several bought masks.
Yes but what about equipping it without your horse. I want to swap the clothes bandana to the executioners mask on my radial menu. How do I do that?
Yeah, thats what I want to know aswell.
You can change your mask/bandana by looking at the horsemenu (L1 + R1 + R1)
