How Does Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, Hitmontop Evolution Work?

The evolution of Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, or Hitmontop from Tyrogue depends entirely on the balance between Tyrogue’s Attack and Defense at the moment of evolution. Tyrogue is going to evolve at level 20, and, depending on how its Attack and Defense measure up, you’ll get Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, or Hitmontop. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Hitmonchan – Tyrogue lvl 20, Attack lower than Defense
  • Hitmonlee – Tyrogue lvl 20, Attack higher than Defense
  • Hitmontop – Tyrogue lvl 20, Attack equal to Defense

Of course, Tyroge, Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee, Hitmontop are all Fighting type Pokemon. That doesn’t change through evolution. That’s basically all there is to it. In theory, you can catch three different Tyrogue Pokemon and evolve them into all three options. Which brings us to the question: where can one find Tyrogue in Pokemon Sword & Shield? I’m so glad you asked.

How to get Tyrogue?

To get Tyrogue in Pokemon Sword & Shield, there’s a whole bunch of places that you can explore. The highest chances, around 28% are in Rolling Fields Area 2 and Rolling Fields, but only if the weather is Overcast. Alternatively, you can search for Tyrogue all over Stony Wilderness in Normal Weather, or in South Lake Miloch, in the grass, when it’s overcast. There’s a bunch of other locations, and under different conditions, that you can find Tyrogue in, but the odds drop drastically.
