How to beat Rival in Pokemon Let’s Go?

The rival will use six pokemon in the battle. If you’ve bought the Pikachu edition, he’ll have a Jolteon – if you’ve purchased the Eevee edition, he’ll have a Raichu. The rest are always the same – a Pidgeot (which can mega evolve into Mega Pidgeot), a Marowak, a Vileplume, a Rapidash and a Slowbro. It’s a pretty versatile crew, and at first glance, you’d need a whole bunch of specific pokemon to deal with them. However, there’s a catch.

Pidgeot, Vileplume, Marowak and Rapidash are all weak to either water or ice. This means a well cared-for Lapras could deal with all of them quite easily‚ as it has both water and ice based attacks. What’s left is the Slowbro, who is weak to electricity (which you already have because of the Lorelei fight), and the Raichu/Jolteon, both of whom are vulnerable to ground. Simply take the strongest ground pokemon you have and you’ll have no trouble.

If you’re getting stuck in any of the Elite Four fights, you should check out our guides for Lorelei, Bruno, Agatha and Lance. Keep in mind can switch out pokemon between fights, as well as heal them using items from your inventory. Use that opportunity wisely, take a look at our guides, and you should have no issues becoming the very best, like no one ever was.
