How mega evolution works in Pokemon Let’s Go?
Mega evolution is only available to certain pokemon. It’s the final stage of evolution, but you can only use it once per fight per pokemon. This means that if you switch out a mega evolved pokemon, if you return it to the field again, it’ll be back to normal. In order to mega evolve a pokemon, you’ll have to pick the mega evolution before you select an attack on the given turn. The pokemon will evolve before performing the move you’ve chosen.

In order to unlock mega evolutions, you’ll have to progress through the story a fair bit. It becomes available only after you’ve unlocked the gym in Viridian City (the last one). Once you’re inside, you’ll talk to professor Oak, and he’ll give you the Key Stone. This is the item you’ll use together with mega stones in order to perform mega evolutions. He’ll also give you a couple of mega stones for free. Although there are numbers next to them in the inventory, these stones cannot be spent.
