Pokemon GO Staryu Spotlight Hour

The Staryu Spotlight Hour in Pokemon GO, during which shiny and regular Staryu will spawn much more often in the wild, is going to begin on Tuesday, July 19th at 6 PM local server time. It will end, well, after an hour. So, 7 PM local time. The event bonus this time around is double Transfer Candy, meaning that you’ll get twice the Candy every time you send one of the Pokemon from your storage over to professor Willow. With the good will of the player base plummeting at the rate it is, I think Niantic could’ve chosen a more interesting Pokemon to focus on. I guess Staryu will have to do.

Can Staryu Be Shiny?

Yes, Staryu can be shiny in Pokemon GO, so if you want one (or, indeed, more than one), the Spotlight Hour is a great time to go for it. You can spot them fairly easily, since the appendages of the shiny Staryu are green instead of orange, and the jewel in the center is blue instead of red. If you then want to evolve it into a shiny Starmie, then the double transfer candy bonus should help you on this “quest.” So, just catch and mill as many Staryu as you can over the course of the event. Yes, all in all, it’s not the most exciting Spotlight Hour ever, especially since the last Community Day revolved around Starly, of all things. But, hey, it is what it is.
