Pokemon GO Debugging Tools & Shiny & Gendered Pokemon
There’s so much new stuff added in the new Pokemon GO update. On the surface, it didn’t seem to do much, but it hides a lot underneath. Dataminers have managed to uncover some hints of potentially very fun new features in the code. There’s a whole set of debugging tools, but more importantly, it’s chock-full of code revolving around Gender and Shiny Pokemon! Let’s analyze their findings a little.
First off, it seems we can look forward to some kind of debugging system in Pokemon GO. God knows, the game sure needs it. But that’s, oddly enough, the less interesting part. Take a look at the the debugger options below.
- Species
- Gender
- Costume
- Form
- Shiny
The three important parts are Gender, Form, and Shiny. Form might refer to the Pokemon Unown and its many forms. It’s not yet in the game, but we can assume it’ll arrive soon. You can read more about that in our Pokemon GO Evolution Items & Unown Forms article.
Meanwhile, the Gender option probably alludes to breeding coming to Pokemon GO. Not only that, but there’s even more code in the update that features Gender. The first clues appeared several months ago, but it seems to be piling up now! Having code that hints at gender-specific Pokemon might be the final confirmation we need that the feature will soon become available. We don’t know how it’ll work, but that didn’t stop us from speculating in the Pokemon GO Valentine’s Day Rumor article.
The third point worth mentioning, Shiny, just confirms the assumptions trainers have had for a while now. For those who don’t know, Shiny Pokemon are basically color-swapped Pokemon. They don’t differ from the normal version in any other way. However, they’re extremely rare and hard to get. Having one is something of a status symbol. Having such prestigious creatures in the game will add a whole new layer to the competitive aspect of Pokemon GO. Code for Shiny Pokemon appeared for the first time parallel to the Gender code. In the new update, there’s even more! Now, it’s only a matter of time until they arrive in the game.
I don’t expect these new features to go live before spring, since many trainers are too busy staying indoors and keeping warm right now. Still, there’s a lot to be excited about. How soon do you think we’ll be getting these updates? Excited about the prospect of breeding Pokemon, or having a Shiny one? Tell us in the comments!
