The Rogue Prince of Persia Launches in Early Access

After an initial delay to give it some breathing room further away from Hades 2, The Rogue Prince of Persia is finally put on Steam Early Access. If you want to get in on the fun immediately, you can buy the game for eighteen bucks; ten percent less than what it will normally retail for – twenty bucks. I love that the trend of more affordable, smaller-scope games is continuing; I just hope Evil Empire doesn’t suffer the same fate as Tango did at Microsoft.

The Rogue Prince of Persia Debuts on Steam Early Access

It’s been a hot second since we’ve seen the legendary prince in action, hasn’t it? And even longer since the last game that wasn’t a bit crap. I assume that’s why Ubisoft have decided to send the franchise back to its roots – tight 2D platforming and acrobatics. And who better to pull it off than Evil Empire, the people that had a hand in developing Dead Cells (or at least some of the latter DLCs). And by the looks of things (by that, I mean the inital reviews), they seem to have nailed it. Mind you, it is still in Early Access, which means that it might still be rough around the edges. Keep that in mind.

As you’ve probably surmised, The Rogue Prince of Persia is a roguelike, meaning that death sends you back to the beginning, but you get to upgrade your character progressively. And in every run (each of which is procedurally generated), you will get different powerups to help you on your way. Standard fare for this type of game, but with the added rush of fast-paced platforming, wall-running and other aerial exhibitions the Prince is now famous for. All in the hopes of saving your city, which is being devastated in an all-out assault.
