Starbreeze signs System Shock 3 developer OtherSide Entertainment
The dream team behind System Shock 3 includes people who were writers and directors on numerous cult titles, including System Shock and System Shock 2, Thief: The Dark Project, Bioshock, Deus Ex and more. They have been working on the sequel to the acclaimed series since late 2015 under the name of OtherSide Entertainment. They have just signed an agreement with Starbreeze Publishing.
Starbreeze will publish System Shock 3, as well as invest $12 million. OtherSide Entertainment is said to keep all of the new System Shock IP, while Starbreeze is looking to recoup 120 percent of the investment, with 50% of revenues after the initial investment is covered.
The CEOs of both companies have commented on the deal:
Paul Neurath, OtherSide CEO
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Starbreeze for System Shock 3. They truly get games and gamers, and have been able to translate that understanding into a robust publishing business, and build thriving gaming communities around their franchises.”
Bo Andersson-Klint, Starbreeze CEO
“System Shock is one of those iconic franchises in the history of games that still gets my blood going and Mr. Spector is one of the founding fathers of the modern action RPG. We’re greatly looking forward to bringing System Shock 3 to players world wide in our collaboration with Otherside Entertainment and Warren Spector’s team. I’ll be first in line to play.”
Starbreeze Publishing is a Swedish company that recently caught the eye of the gaming company by signing a deal with Double Fine. They will publish the sequel of one of the most famous games that has never got a sequel – Psychonauts. Starbreeze has also been working closely with the Croatian Lion Game Lion on their RAID: World War II game.
System Shock 3 is currently in very early stages of development, but we will keep you posted.
