Spyro Reignited Trilogy E3 Gameplay Demo Shows a Refreshed Game

After the immense success of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, it’s really no surprise to me that Spyro is next on the list. The original Spyro trilogy from the late nineties is getting a major facelift by the hands of developer team Toys for Bob. To show off their work, they’ve brought a ten-minute gameplay video to E3 2018. And, if I were to judge solely based on the material they provided, I’d say it looks pretty amazing. I’ve played the original back in the day, and I have to say, seeing it with this new sheen is pretty amazing.

First off, the most obvious improvements are in the visual and audio departments. The game looks fantastic in HD on the PS4. The level of detail is fantastic, compared to the original. The grass waves in the wind, and your fire breath leaves scorch marks on the ground. There’s other smaller and larger touches, such as vines growing on walls, the level of detail on the enemies, and so on. The audio got its polish, as well. The pitter-patter of Spyro’s feet and other sound effects change depending on whether you’re outside or inside. Also, the devs brought in none other than Tom Kenny of SpongeBob fame to voice Spyro throughout all three games. As far as gameplay goes, the studio did their best to keep it the feel as true to the original as possible.

The Spyro Reignited Trilogy is coming out on September 21st. You’ll be able to pick it up on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. It’s going to cost $40. If you’re a fan of classic platformers, you really shouldn’t pass this one up. You can check out how the remastered version look like and how they run in the gameplay video below.
