Soulcalibur VI Adding Geralt from The Witcher to the Roster
Our beloved witcher Geralt of Rivia, Butcher of Blaviken, is going to be joining the Soulcalibur 6 roster. He’ll be bringing his signature style of swordfighting, as well as his magic abilities. Geralt also got a reveal trailer, showcasing what his fighting in Soulcalibur 6 will look like.
One of the draws that fighting games have for me are the guest characters. I mean it. Especially if the guest in question is from another franchise I love. Like horror movie characters in the latest Mortal Kombat games. And, Capcom has decided to add a special guest to its upcoming Soulcalibur 6. It is none other than Geralt of Rivia, our likable, gruff witcher from The Witcher series. Doug Cockle will be reprising his voice role as Geralt, so be ready to hear him groan about portals. His arena will be Kaer Morhen, and his music track will be Hunt or be Hunted from the Witcher 3 soundtrack.
Marcin Mormot, Community Lead at CD Projekt Red, is pretty excited about this new development: “SOULCALIBUR is well known in the fighting games genre for including iconic guest characters. When we were approached with the idea of doing a crossover, we thought our community would really enjoy playing as the witcher.” Soulcalibur producer Motohiro Okubo explained why Geralt will fit well in the new surroundings: “All SOULCALIBUR characters have strong convictions and complex backgrounds and this is why it is a great honor for the whole SOULCALIBUR team to welcome Geralt as the guest character in SOULCALIBUR VI.”
Of course, a huge crossover between two giant gaming franchises couldn’t go without an announcement trailer. The video, which you can check out below, really does the job of selling Geralt in this new universe. Don’t get me wrong, they don’t waste too much time explaining how he ended up there. Instead, they focus on showing off Geralt fighting Mitsurugi and others. And, by golly, they made it look so damn cool. Soulcalibur 6 is coming out some time this year, but there isn’t any set launch date yet.
