Sonic Forces is a strange beast indeed. It’s kinda beautiful in how self-aware it is, on top of being a fairly solid game. Not only that, but it really strives to fulfill the dreams of long-time fans. It does so by allowing players to create their own character, who features prominently along with the familiar cast of characters. Beating levels rewards you with tons of clothes that you can use to customize your character’s appearance. It does its best to make you feel like your character is a part of the Sonic universe.

Back to the matter of the game’s self-awareness. Sonic Forces makes references both small and big to the history of the franchise. And now, it seems that the developers have decided to dip their toes into the ocean that is Sonic memes. As was announced on the Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter, you can now get a shirt featuring the Sanic Hegehog as free DLC for your avatar to wear. Yes, really. How much more meta can you possibly get if you’re a Sonic game?

If you’re unfamiliar with the Sanic meme, it started with a YouTube video, which demonstrates how to draw “Sanic”. It, of course, ends up being an MS Paint abomination. The Internet took it and ran with it, and so was born the Sanic meme. So, if you’ve ever wanted to proudly emblazon your Sonic Forces character with it, now you can.
