Rainbow Six Siege Team Reverses Removal of Standard Edition

Ubisoft are backing down on the idea of removing the Standard Edition of Rainbow Six Siege from the store. The upcoming premium loot boxes are still going to happen. That being said, at least every player that plays an online match until March 6th will get a free As Sidewinder Elite skin for free. So, that’s something.

Ubisoft has really been toeing the line lately. They’ve been adding loot boxes to several different older, but still relevant games, and the newest victim of this is Rainbow Six Siege. That in itself, fans might have let slide. Then, however, Ubi announced that they’ll be removing the $40 Standard Edition of the game from the store, leaving only the more expensive options open. Not counting the Starter Edition, which is barely an empty shell of the game. Needless to say, fans of the game didn’t take too well to the news. They started kicking up the dust, as they well had the right to.

Fortunately (for them, at least), Ubisoft has seen that they’ve crossed the line, so they went into damage control almost immediately. In a post on Reddit, they immediately laid out a three-point plan of action. It’s almost like they had it all planned ahead and ready to roll, or something. Like they were anticipating fan backlash. Anyway, here’s what they have up their sleeve. The first step is to award anybody that plays an online match until March 6th an Ash Sidewinder Elite skin for free. It will arrive to your inventory at the launch of Season 1 of Year 3.

The second step is basically them announcing that they won’t be removing the Standard Edition from the store, after all. The last step is to address “concerns over the Starter Edition when it comes to acquiring Operators”. The post doesn’t get into specifics. We’ll have to wait for the Six Invitational for that. All in all, good work, Rainbow Six fans. You saw some dirty moves, and you acted timely and accordingly. It may be a small victory, but it’s a victory nonetheless.
