Night Trap 25th Anniversary Edition Coming to PS4 & PC in August

The remaster of Night Trap, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the game, has got a release date. The digital release on Steam and the PlayStation Store will launch on August 15th. Before that, the PlayStation 4 will get a limited physical release on August 11th. The physical version comes in a Standard and Collector’s edition, and each contains a number of physical bonuses.

Night Trap is a unique treasure of gaming. It came out in 1992, in that magical time when game developers thought that full motion video was the future of gaming. You play as a security officer and control a bunch of cameras around a mansion. The house is full of young women, which are bait for vampires. Your job is to capture the vampires using traps in the mansion before they get to the women.

In its time, Night Trap caused a bunch of controversy. The “death scenes” where considered extremely gruesome, and you could sneak a few peeks at the girls in underwear. While it seems positively tame today, it caused a huge moral panic back in the early nineties. And, starting August 15th, you’ll be able to play it today.

Night Trap Standard & Collector’s Edition Bonuses

Both the Standard and the Collector’s Edition of the Night Trap remaster are limited in numbers, and are only available for the PS4. There will be 5.000 copies of the Standard Edition, and each customer can get a maximum of two copies. It comes with a full-color manual, reversible cover art, and a large fold-out poster. The game is region free.

The Collector’s Edition, on the other hand, is limited to only 3.000 copies, one per customer. It’s also region free, and, like the Standard edition, comes with the manual, poster, and reversible cover art. On top of that, you’ll get the following goodies:

• Night Trap cassette tape featuring the infamous Night Trap theme song.
• A 4-inch custom embroidered Special Control Attack Team patch on black ballistic fiber.
• An individually numbered shrink-wrapped box specially tooled and tailored to be a throwback to the original red box Sega CD release of Night Trap.
