Be that as it may, I’m sure that there’s a number of you that are considering playing NBA 2K19 for the first time. Well, if you’re thinking of using this game as a jumping on point for the series, then you might be interested into what basically amounts to a free demo. In other words, you might want to give the free Prelude a spin, just to see if this is a game for you.

The Prelude is basically the first chapter of the MyCareer mode in NBA 2K19. That’s the Story Mode of the game, in case you’re out of the loop. The first chapter will have the title “The Way Back” and you can already play it right now, for free. The Prelude begins with your character playing for the Chinese Basketball League. From there, you’ll have to work your way up to the lower leagues in the United States; from there, through blood, sweat and tears, it’s all the way up to the NBA. Bonus fact: The Prelude will feature a host of big-named actors lending voices to characters, including Haley Joel Osment, Anthony Mackie, Rob Huebel, Aldis Hodge, and others.

NBA 2K19 is coming out on September 11th, on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch. If you get the 20th Anniversary Edition, or preorder the game, you’ll get the chance to play it a couple of days later, on September 7th.
