Marvel's Avengers Getting Spider-Man on PS4 Exclusively
Sony may have “loaned” Spider-Man to Marvel Studios, but when it comes to games, it’s keeping a tight grasp on the friendly neighborhood wall-crawler. As a result, the PlayStation 4 version of Marvel’s Avengers will feature the web-slinger as an exclusive character. Spidey will join the team in early 2021, at no extra cost to those that own the base game. Can’t get a deal fairer than that.
Yes, according to a PlayStation Blog post by Jeff Adams of Crystal Dynamics, Spider-Man will be a playable character in Marvel’s Avengers exclusively on PS4. They will introduce him to the game at some point in early 2021 through a special in-game event. Said event, will feature “a series of unique challenges for the hero to take on, testing his abilities, and yielding some exciting results.” In other words, it’s going to be a tutorial of sorts; a fun way to introduce you to how Spidey works in this game.
Naturally, this iteration of the web-head is not going to be the same as Insomniac’s. It’s a very different game, after all. That said, he will have his own, unique skill tree, featuring “an impressive suite of iconic abilities and attacks.” So, you’ll be able to choose what skills and gadgets you want to use in order to build the Spider-Man that’s perfect for you. Plus, you can bet there’ll be “multiple cosmetic outfits and gameplay experience options” for you to explore, too. Best of all, Spidey will be free for all that own the base version of the game.
Marvel’s Avengers is coming out on September 4th on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Google Stadia. Later on in Q4, it’s also going to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. In the game, you’ll be able to play as Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Ms Marvel, and Hawkeye. It will, of course, include online co-op, allowing you to assemble your own Avengers team.
