FIFA 23 Cross-Platform and Crossplay Explained
First tested in some modes of FIFA 22, the full support for cross-platform will be available in FIFA 23. This makes the iconic moment for the franchise, as this will be the first time in the series history that a FIFA game will offer full cross-play support. However, given the complexity of this system and all the intricacies of implementing it, there will be some minor limitations.
First off, there will be no cross-gen cross-play. This means that only PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Stadia, and PC versions of FIFA 23 will be cross-play compatible with one another, and PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of FIFA 23 will be cross-play compatible with one another. Below, we list which FIFA 23 components will have cross-play support:
- Division Rivals (except Co-Op)
- Champions
- Ultimate Online Draft
- Online Friendlies (except Co-Op)
- Play a Friend
- Online Friendlies
- Online Seasons (except Co-Op Seasons)
As you can notice, only 1v1 modes will support cross-platform play, unfortunately. As EA states, “modes that pair players together such as Pro Clubs will not feature cross-play at this time. Cross-play will be turned on by default, but you can always choose to opt-out if you wish so. In addition, the FUT Transfer Market will also include cross-platform functionality. However, it will be separated into three Transfer Markets. PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Stadia will have a shared FUT Transfer Market Pool. On the other hand, the Switch version of the game and the PC version will have their own individual FUT Transfer Markets.
