Canceled Star Wars game featuring Darth Maul
Unfortunately, there was a game called Star Wars: Maul that was never released. The interesting thing is that this wasn’t the only one. Star Wars 1313 and Battlefront 3 were also canceled. You can check out a short video and some very interesting concept art at artstation.com HERE.
The artstation page was created by Thomas Szakolczay who worked on the game as a concept artist. This game was in development in 2004, and it was supposed to be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. If you watch the video on artstation, you will see that the combat is very similar to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, where you would use your lightsaber and various powers to devastate your enemies. The only difference is that this title looks much more violent, with heads and body parts getting cut off by your lightsaber attacks.
Looks like there was a level where you could control a small flying droid, probably for scouting purposes.Notice that Darth Maul’s lower body is cybernetic, meaning that the game is set after his meeting with Obi-Wan Kenobi in The Phantom Menace. Apparently, there were multiple different outfits for Darth Maul, judging by the concept art pictures. They look really nice, especially the one with the black hood, cape and armor.
Even the stormtroopers received a visual upgrade, making them look more fierce and menacing.Judging by the concept art, there was a level in Downtown Coruscant with rain effects that looked really nice. There are some new characters involved, especially the jedi girl with the fancy-looking outfit and two shorter double-blade lightsabers.
Hopefully, the developers will change their minds and someday we will be able to try out this game, since it looks really nice. The good news is, at least we will be getting the new Star Wars: Battlefront later this year.
