The creators of Ark: Survival Evolved are indeed at it again. This time, it’s an even more ambitious project. The game in question is Atlas, an MMO pirate survival game. It’s tempting to characterize it as a mix between Sea of Thieves and Ark, which is a little cheeky, but, based on what we’ve seen, not entirely unrealistic a comparison.

So, what exactly does Atlas bring to the table, other than the promise of 40,000 simultaneous online players? Well, first off, it’s stupid big. The press release mentions “700 unique land masses across 45,000 square kilometers, with thousands of Discovery Zones, and ten distinct world regions.” Then, there’s also building your ship from scratch, You’ll start with a tiny little boat or raft, and build and plunder your way up. Then, of course, you’ll be able to put together your own crew, either with AI or other people. You can duke it out with other players in PvP, claim land and impose taxation, hunt mythological creatures such as mermaids, sea monsters (and, apparently, dragons), and much more. For more details, feel free to check out the game’s Steam page.

If Atlas sounds like a game that might tickle your fancy, you’ll be pleased to know that the game will come out on Steam Early Access on December 30th, and it will cost $24.99 as a “special launch promotional price” (the game’s full price will be $29.99). I early 2019, Atlas will launch via Xbox One’s Game Preview program. It is going to be an Xbox exclusive, by the way. in the meantime, check out the reveal trailer below.
