How to Level Up Charm in Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord

Charm has been one of the harder skills to level up in Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord. Not enough opportunities to do it, and small gains whenever you do made it an excruciating process. A patch has been released which now allows you to increase charm XP quickly and easily – some would say too easily. If you don’t read patch notes for every update, this guide will show you how to level up charm in Bannerlord quickly and easily.

How to increase charm XP?

It’s pretty simple, and rewarding. Just go to the nearest noble, talk to them and ask to barter. When you get to the barter screen (pictured above), put in one denar, and ask for one denar in return. Nobody will object, since the value is equal. Once the trade is done, you’ll get some charm XP – the amount seems to be inconsistent, but you’ll definitely see an improvement.

The amounts we’ve been getting have been pretty large, which probably means the system will be rebalanced again in the future. We’re going to see either a reduction of charm XP increases from barter across the board, or at least some restrictions which would limit the gain of charm skill points to bigger, more substantial trades than what we’ve been doing.

If that does happen, you can always go back to the other methods. Releasing imprisoned nobles after battles usually works, as does improving your relations with various NPCs. It’s unlikely bartering as a source of charm XP will go away completely, as it is is within the remit of the charm skill, but it’ll probably be nerfed to make it less worthwhile.
