How to Get Married & Have Kids in Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord
Starting a family is one of the new featuers in Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord. Your character can get married to another and have children, although it’s unclear what the points of it all is. Gameplay-wise, I mean. Getting married is a bit of a medieval process, and it can take quite some time (not to mention denars). Producing offspring, on the other hand, is as simple as you’d expect. This guide will show you how to get married and have kids in Mount & Blade 2 Bannerlord.
How to get married in Bannerlord?
Getting married isn’t as easy as walking into a 24/7 chapel in Vegas and having an Elvis impersonator tie the proverbial knot. First you’ll have to find an eligible bachelor or bachelorette. Same sex marriages aren’t allowed, so it’ll have to be an unmarried person of the opposite gender.
To do this, you need to head to a large town or castle. Request to see the Lord’s room, then ask to talk to someone. Select a person of the opposite gender from the top of the screen, then open their encyclopedia entry (right-click). At the bottom of the entry, you’ll find their family status. If there isn’t a wife/husband/spouse listed there, you’re in luck.
Once you’ve selected your target, you’ll need to court them. There’s a bunch of skill checks involved, and if you failed too many, you’ll lose the chance to try again. Either save before you start so you can reload if you fail, or you’ll have to find a new target. Talk to them and admit you’re their admirer, then ask for their hand in marriage. They’ll want to get to know you better, so you’ll have to leave and come back – no need to wait, you can walk back in immediately.
During the conversation mini-game, you should pick the answers that have the highest chance to succeed. The game will check skills like charm, generosity, leadership, honor and calculating – stuff tied to the social attribute, basically. If you manage to answer all the questions to their liking, you’ll need to leave for a couple of days, then return and do another round. If you pass the second round, you’ll have to butter up the liege.
Talk to your newly-found beloved and ask about their liege. They’ll give you a name, and checking the encyclopedia entry for that name will tell you where they’ve been seen last. Track them down and talk to them about “finilizing the terms of the marriage”. This is where you pay through your nose – you’l get a trading screen, and you’ll have to give them things until the little “gift” button in the lower part of the screen turns green. Once you’ve satisfied the liege’s greed, you’ll finally get your spouse.
How to have children?
Having kids is much easier than finding someone willing to have them with you. Just talk to your spouse and add the your party. If you’re playing as a male character, after a few weeks you’ll get a notification that your wife is with child. Now you just have to wait for the kid to be born and voila, you’re a dad.
