Mass Effect: Andromeda New Trailer Released

EA and Bioware have released a new trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda. The video is called The Andromeda Initiative, and it’s a bit cryptic, to tell the truth.

It leads to a site that will let you subscribe to their newsletter, although you could always pretend it’s part of some elaborate ARG. It is a trailer announcing some (hopefully more exciting) news to come, basically.

The trailer starts with the camera focusing on a footprint in the dust, then slowly panning across the surface of the Moon. All the while, a Serious Person says Serious Stuff about humanity’s exploration of the world around them, which eventually lead them beyond the Milky Way. A person enters the shot, dressed in fancy, N7-branded space armor. While the invisible person (the Serious one) keeps talking about space stuff, yet another person enters the scene, dressed in an equally fancy space suit. Exciting stuff.

The trailer tells us absolutely nothing about the game. Except that it maybe takes place 600 years after something, perhaps. It contains a link to a page that will let you subscribe to their newsletter. At least the page is written in-fiction, which is nice. I guess? It also reveals that “orientation begins on November 7th”, which probably means we’ll get some actual news at that point.

It’s a great way to rile up the audience with nothing to show, to be honest. It’s also a great way to add fuel to the flame of hate that’s still burning on account of Mass Effect 3’s ending. Corporate marketing works in mysterious ways.

There’s no hard date yet, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is planned for release during Spring 2017. It’s coming to PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. The Playstation 4 Pro is also listed as a supported platform, hopefully with prettier graphics than the regular one.
