Mass Effect Andromeda Black Screen on Startup Error - How to Solve Launch Problems
Mass Effect Andromeda trial is available to all Origin Access and EA Access subscribers. It allows you to play the game for 10 hours, has multiplayer and a piece of the singleplayer campaign. However, some players are experiencing problems with it. Namely, many people are complaining about getting a blank screen at launch. In this guide, we’re going to show you how to solve Mass Effect Andromeda black screen on startup error, so you can get on with playing.
ME: Andromeda Black Screen at Launch
If you can’t get past the black screen on startup in Mass Effect Andromeda, here’s what you should do:
- If you’re using the Corsair Utility Engine, uninstall it. This alone should fix the problem.
- If the problem persists, here are some other things you could try:
- Alt-tab to get the game to run in a borderless window.
- Install the latest graphics card drivers (use the clean install option if you’re using Nvidia).
- Disable your antivirus, or make an exception for the game.
- Disable the Origin overlay (you can find the option in the client’s settings).
- Make sure the game is fully downloaded and updated. Don’t try to play when the client says it’s playable – let the download finish.
A Corsair employee took to EA’s forums to say they’re working on providing a proper solution, so the issue shouldn’t plague the game after release. For now, if you’re using their software for mouse configuration, you’ll have to do without your custom setup and macros.
In case you find a different workaround, feel free to let us know in the comments. We’re going to update the guide with any new info we find. We’ll also be on the lookout for other erorrs and problems.
The extreme injector works 100%. Thanks a million
The injector worked but i”ve got a new problem…the game doesn’t load prologue…the bar fills up and the spinning wheel spins but no prologue…nothing. Please help!!!
Easy fix guys…if u are using nvidea graphic card go to geforce experience amd in there select mass effect and change screen mode as either windowed or borderless windowed….the later worked for me
Okay, from my own experiences and what I read online, I have found a proper solution.
When you launch the game and all you get is a black window that just sits there, it could be one of the following:
1. You have Corsair Engine Utility installed/running. This was not the case with me, and people say to uninstall it. I would personally just stop the service and kill all of the process with the Task Manager, but again, you can just uninstall it.
2. You have TeamViewer installed. Same thing, easiest thing to do would be to uninstall it, but you should be able to just stop the service and kill the processes.
3. You are running a Dual Core CPU. I don’t think it matters if the CPU itself is Intel or AMD. If this is your case, below are the instructions on how to get the game running at it’s best.
I would like to note that the “user.cfg” method does in fact work and the game does run, but I tried playing it and it will just freeze at random moments, in my case it happened fairly quickly after getting into the game, which led me to this solution.
If you created the “user.cfg” file in your Mass Effect Andromeda directory, feel free to delete it.
1. Download the “Extreme Injector” package with appropriate DLL’s – http://www.multiupfile.com/f/3fc26958
(I am not responsible for this link nor software, use at your own risk) – it may ID as a virus/malware, and that’s because technically it is an Injector.
2. Extract the contents of the downloaded archive to your Mass Effect Andromeda directory. (I think you can do wherever, but for contingency’s sake, we will do it this way).
3. Run “Extreme Injector V3.exe” with Admin rights. Once opened, hit the “Add DLL” button and add both “dualcore.dll” and “EasyHook64.dll”. In the field labeled “Process Name”, enter “MassEffectAndromeda.exe” (no quotes). Finally, hit the “Settings” button, and tick the “Auto Inject” option. Once you did this, you are essentially good to go.
Now, to launch the game successfully, first open Extreme Injector (once you have it configured it requires no further action) then just launch Mass Effect Andromeda. The Extreme Injector window should disappear, and the game should launch.
To make things a little bit easier, I personally created a simple batch file that launches them both with the click of one shortcut. If you want to go about it this way too, (it’s way easier), here’s how:
Back in ME:A root directory, create a new text document. Paste the following into it:
start .\Injector.exe
start .\MassEffectAndromeda.exe
Save the text file, and rename it to “Launcher.bat” – make sure you change the extension too or it will still be just a text file not a batch file. Now, I think the “start” command is PowerShell only, cause things started getting weird on me, in any case, rename “Extreme Injector V3.exe” to “Injector.exe”. Finally, create a shortcut to “Launcher” on your desktop (or wherever). Rename the shortcut to “Mass Effect Andromeda”, right click on it and choose properties. Inside the properties window, hit the Change Icon button, find the ME:A folder and choose the icon/exe. So now you have a shortcut on your desktop that looks just like the actual game shortcut, but is so much more.
And that’s it. You should be good to go. Word of advice though – I noticed that sometimes when you close ME:A improperly, the process doesn’t get terminated completely. If the injector is acting weird, disappearing right after you open it, chances are it’s detecting the improperly closed ME:A process and injecting it. Open up Task Manager, go to the details tab and end the ME:A process. Things should come back to normal
Ohh, if you do end up doing the batch file shortcut method, make sure to go into the Properties of the Injector.exe, under the compatibility tab tick the box to run with admin privileges, that way it will have admin privileges when the batch file starts it.
Teamviewer also causes this, as it does with several other games.
I have teamviewer and i closed it, now the game now runs in full screen! thanks for the info!
Yes it’s work on my G2020 2.9
For those who still have a black screen even without corsair utility, please try the following:
Create user.cfg file in your mass effect andromeda folder (for ex. E:\Origin Games\Mass Effect Andromeda) and enter these two entries in it:
Thread.ProcessorCount 4
Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount -2
After a lot of configuration tweaks, this finally maid it work for me. If it works for you, please spread the word 🙂
its worked bro
could you elaborate on this?
For those of us not as tech savvy, could you elaborate on this a bit more? Thanks!
LEGIT. GOT TO AT LEAST CHARACTER CREATION SCREEN.
it seems the trick is to maximize processing power for andromeda WHILE also suppressing its full capacity. i have a 2009-era pc (with a gtx 1060, go figure) so i also appended
GameTime.MaxVariableFps 30
dunno about any of you, but i’m happy at 30fps.
i did as you said above but didt not work for me
It worked for me! You are a God! Can’t even thank you enough, THANKS A LOT stranger!
I did everything.. and still have an Blackscreen!
And the time ist running out. even when i’m not playing the game.
Navigate to C:\Users\\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect Andromeda\Save and open ProfOps_Profile. Scroll down till you see GstRender.FullscreenMode. Next to it should be 1. Change it to 0 and save. Open Mass Effect Andromeda, it should stay windows. Navigate to the Settings, then to Video Output and change the Display Mode to Windowed Borderless. Problem solved!
What is there is no such file there? When I start the game it doesn’t create those files there.
Yo so whenever i try to launch the trial out of Origin it launches in a window, but the window is a black screen. It doesnt progress at all, and in the task manager it appears but shows that it is using 0% of my CPU. idk if it because i already own the super deluxe edition of the game on my account, but im really dying to play this, and i really dont want to run into this problem when the game launches
