The new trailer for Injustice 2 is now live on the DC Entertainment YouTube channel. The video reveals more of the game’s story, covering the rise of a group of villains called The Society. DC has never been very creative with the names of villain groups.

The video is framed around a speech by the Society apparent leader, Gorilla Grood. We can see many select DC bad guys and gals around him – Scarecrow, Bane, Captain Cold, Cheetah, Catwoman, Deadshot and Poison Ivy. The trailer also features Reverse-Flash later on. Every one of them has their own reasons for joining The Society, but their final goal is clear. They’re out to destroy the last remnants of the Justice League and Superman’s Regime from the previous game. You can check out the trailer below.

The trailer is mostly cinematic, though it does show off some gameplay. The focus remains on setting up the story of Injustice 2, though, and the video does its job well. We get to see what kind of threat the heroes will be facing. Each villain is a challenge on their own. With all of them now working together, however, the situation is pretty dire. Take for example Deadshot shooting The Flash in the leg, leaving him at the mercy of Captain Cold. But the heroes have unlikely alliances of their own. And then Darkseid will arrive and mess everyone up, presumably.

Injustice 2 comes out on May 16th, 2017. It will be available on the PS4, Xbox One, Android and iOS.
