Guild Wars 2 Underwater Mount Announced for August 25th

The developers of Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet, have announced that they’re putting a new mount into the game. Called skimmers, these giant rays will carry you underwater with speed and style. Of course, you’ll first have to catch and tame a wild skimmer. Oh, and own Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire. If you do, I think you’ll find having an underwater mount is well-worth the effort, especially when you factor in the coolness factor.

Guild Wars 2 Underwater Mount Announced for August 25th

Have you ever wanted to ride a gigantic ray through the ocean and possibly even into battle? You have? Did the horrible fate of The Crocodile Hunter teach you nothing? Well, anyway, you will be able to have your very own ray, aka skimmer to ride in Guild Wars 2. The new mount will make its debut on August 25th, if you own Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire. That isn’t to say that you won’t have to do the legwork in order to obtain a skimmer.

As the official announcement puts it: “On August 25, track down a rogue skimmer trainer through the Crystal Desert and Central Tyria to complete a new collection and unlock the Skimming the Depths Mastery track. Train the Mastery, and you’ll be able to ride your skimmer through the abyssal depths with ease.” So, yeah, the game won’t just hand you a skimmer on a silver platter; you will absolutely have to earn it.

ArenaNet have also released a brief trailer showing off the skimmers in action. You can check it out below. I’m not one to rely on trailers too much, but this one really does make the new mount seem graceful and cool. If you want one, then arm yourself with patience, my friends, because there’s still some time to go before you can breeze through the waves on your ray.
