A common element in the show is the secret life of Perry, the pet platypus of Phineas and Ferb. Perry is actually a spy known as Agent P, who works for a covert animal organization called O.W.C.A. (“Organization Without a Cool Acronym”). His mission is to stop the evil plans of Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, a mad scientist who wants to prove his villainy but often fails because of his own incompetence.
The stories of Perry and Doofenshmirtz usually connect with the ones of Phineas and Ferb. Often resulting in the destruction or disappearance of the boys’ creations before Candace can show them to their mom, which frustrates her greatly. The co-creator of the show, Dan Povenmire, said that the “a-plot” of each episode, the one about Phineas and Ferb’s inventions, is not really a plot, but rather the setting, and that the actual plot is about Candace, Perry and Doofenshmirtz.
