Torchlight 3 Cross Platform
Torchlight 3 has been release a couple of days ago, and lots of people have been enjoying it. It’s out on PC, Playstation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, and a number of players have been wondering whether they can play with their friends on other platforms. If you’re one of them, and are wondering about the possibility of cross play, this guide will tell you whether Torchlight 3 cross platform is possible or not.
Does Torchlight 3 have cross play?
In short, no. Sadly, you can only play multiplayer with people on the same platform as yourself. There’s no telling whether this is down to the game’s code, or console holders’ aversion to letting their user bases mingle, but it is what it is. To make matters worse, there’s no way to play multiplayer locally, either. According to some pre-release interviews, it’s not completely off the table, but don’t hold your breath. It’s too much work, since the game wasn’t built for it from the ground up.
Apart from that one snag, it’s pretty much what you’d expect. It takes place 100 years after the previous game, has five classes for you to choose from, different pets to help you in combat and sell of your wares without having to go back to town yourself, etc. There’s even a fort-building section – we’re not sure how that works, but what’s for certain is that you can build a fort. It’s 2020, every game has to have base building elements.
The reviews from both the reviewers and the audience have been mixed – a lot of series veterans are particularly disgruntled by the changes that have been made. If you’re one of the unhappy ones, maybe check out Path of Exile? It’s free, it’s big, and it has been regularly updated for a long time now.
