F1 22 Crossplay, Cross-Platform & Cross-Gen
In our F1 22 Crossplay, Cross-Platform & Cross-Gen guide, we’re going to cover several important aspects of this game’s multiplayer. First off, we will cover whether or not it’s going to have crossplay. Then, we’re going to focus on cross-gen play and how that is going to work. So, with the introductions out of the way, let’s dive in.
Is F1 22 Crossplay?
F1 22 will not have cross-platform crossplay at launch, but it will have cross-gen play. More about the latter in the next section. Now, that said, the game will have crossplay at some point after it comes out. You might be wondering what the reason for the delay is. Well, according to this interview with creative director Lee Mather, it’s because the team they’ve partnered with to work on the feature was based in Ukraine. I think you can understand why the delay had to happen. That said, when they do manage to implement crossplay, you will most likely be able to play with people on all platforms (PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, to be exact).
Does F1 22 Have Cross-Gen Play?
Yes, F1 22 will have cross-gen play, and unlike cross-platform crossplay, this feature will be available from launch. The developers cover this in detail in their post explaining Dual Entitlement. The basic idea is that, if you pre-order the Champions Edition, you get Dual Entitlement. This lets you upgrade your copy of F1 22 from PS4 to PS5 or Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S at no extra cost.
More importantly, the post says that “you will be able to match up with other players on the same console family in online sessions.” So, while you won’t have the option to play with people on a different console family, cross-gen play will be there. So, that’s something at least.
