CS2 Bad Sound Issues, No Sound on Linux Counter Strike 2 Fix
If you are having sound issues in Counter Strike 2, you are not going crazy! Since the launch of CS2, a number players have been complaining about muffled sounds in CS2. In addition, many players report that there is no sound on Linux in CS2 at all. Why is this happening, and can it be fixed? Here’s what we know about it.
CS2 No Sound on Linux Fix
When it comes to Counter-Strike 2 no sound issues on Linux, a number of players have reported this annoying issue. Given the paramount importance of sound in Counter-Strike games, having no sound in the game practically means that the game is not working for you at all. You might as well not play CS2 at that point. So, is there any solution for this? Luckily for you, there is!
The easiest solution, which has fixed the issue for many players is to simply check out settings and set the audio device to analog in the audio menu. If this doesn’t work for you, there are some other solutions. Steam user Nils suggests using Pipewire. “Add -sdlaudiodriver pipewire,” he wrote as a potential solution. Finally, for PulseAudio, user Paco suggests making “a file in your home folder and name it .asoundrc.” After this, you should paste the following lines:
ctl.dmixer {
type pulse
}
pcm.pulse {
type pulse
}
ctl.pulse {
type pulse
}
pcm.!default {
type pulse
}
ctl.!default {
type pulse
}
Counter Strike 2 Bad Sound Issues
Unfortunately, unlike the “CS2 No Sound on Linux” issue, we currently have no solutions for bad audio in Counter-Strike 2. It seems that 3D audio simply behaves quite strangely on the game’s launch and that there are no ways to fix it. Players report that CS2 sounds are muffled and that the sound quality is horrible.
However, players are currently arguing if this is really a bug or just an intended feature, and it’s working like that by design. “The sound is not a bug. The sound mode which CS2 uses was available in CS:GO for testing for quite a while, it is more realistic, location-based sound,” claims Steam user Phade. What is your opinion on the new sounds? Tell us in the comments section!
The “-sdlaudiodriver pipewire” solution worked for me. Thanks.
