Cross-Platform Progression & Crossplay in Battlefield 2042

It seems that there will be some kind of Battlefield crossplay and cross-platform progression, but right now, that’s all in the domain of internet hearsay. During a recent press event (via Screen Rant), the EA and DICE representatives have basically declined to say anything on the matter; however, they have stated that they will say more in the months before release. Besides, they’ve already announced that Battlefield 2042 will have support for up to 128 players on PC and current-gen consoles and 64 on last-gen consoles, so it is very unlikely that they will offer no crossplay or cross-progression. We’ll just have to wait for further info.

All of that said, the matter of last-gen consoles is a bit of a wrench in the system. As we’ve already mentioned, they can only “house” up to 64 players in the same match, while new-gen machines can support double that. This could cause some trouble when it comes to crossplay. I don’t know how the developers are going to solve it. Maybe they’ll just have crossplay between Xbox One and PlayStation 4 separate from everyone else. Again, we’ll have to wait and see what the devs reveal about the Battlefield 2042 crossplay and cross platform progression later on.

Battlefield 2042 is coming out this fall. Those of you that are EA Play members or purchase the Gold or Ultimate Edition will be able to start playing on October 15th, because of course they’d do something like that. Everyone else will get access on October 22nd. The game will be available on Xbox One and Series X/S, PlayStation 4 and 5, and PC.
