Will GTA 6 Have Prison Gameplay?

Ever since the trailer dropped, people have been asking whether GTA 6 will have prison gameplay or not. For reasons I am not entirely clear on, the fan base has been asking for at least the option to go to jail and see what there is to see behind bars. So will Grand Theft Auto 6 finally make this weird dream come true? Well, let’s talk about it.

Is GTA 6 Going to Have Prison Gameplay?

At time of writing, we obviously can’t say whether GTA 6 is going to have prison gameplay. The reason people are even asking is because the opening scenes of the trailer shows Lucia in the penitentiary. And considering that the player base has been obsessing over being able to access the prison (and pestering Rockstar about it) for a while now, this just served to fan the flames. There’s even people who are already speculating that the first mission will be some high-octane prison break. Which I find extremely difficult to believe, if for no other reason, then because the cover art shows Lucia wearing an ankle tag. So, she has been released, not broken out. And it’s possible that ankle tag will be the excuse to keep you confined to one area at the start.

So, yeah, we don’t know if GTA 6 is going to have gameplay in prison. Maybe if you get arrested, you will be able to see the inside of the prison. Maybe meet some inmates, make contacts, you get the idea. However, I don’t think that’s highly likely. And it’s the same reason they haven’t done it in GTA 5. What kind of fun could you possibly have while having to stick to a prison timetable? I mean, sure, it could work, with sneaking contraband around and whatnot. But that would honestly just have to be one long mission and we’re back to the streets. It just wouldn’t work with the overall tone.
