Best Blades of Chaos Runic Attack

The best heavy runic attacks for Blades of Chaos depend on the situation. For example, if you are fighting one of the Valkyries, you’ll want the one that stuns or focuses on a single enemy, instead of the one that does area of effect damage. Here are the four that were the most useful to us:

  1. Gift of the Apollo – This is the most powerful one for fighting a single, tough enemy. It will give you more time to survive harsh attacks, allowing you live more before using the Resurrection stones. The downside is the long cooldown, but in the end, it is worth it. If you combine it with a light runic attack with consecutive swings, Gift of the Apollo really shines. It saved me a lot of trouble when fighting Sigrun, the hardest enemy in the game.
  2. Meteoric Slam – The strongest area damage attack. It has nine points invested in damage and burn, and comes in super handy when there are many enemies. It also has a super cool animation, which lights up the entire area. The downside is that it also knocks back the enemies, which means a lot of its damage can miss them.
  3. Hyperion Grapple – This might be the best utility, single-target heavy runic attack. It will allow you to get to the target as soon as possible, while stunning it. It has the best stun and damage ratio of them all, with the shortest cooldown. The downside is that it hits only one target, making it less useful with large groups of enemies.
  4. Hyperion Slam – It has a 4/5 damage and burn, with a great animation. Even if it is advertised as a melee type, you can also use it for area damage.

Tartarus Rage

  • A destructive slam attack that hits enemies with 2 Blades slams.
    • Damage 3/5
    • Burn 2/5
    • Stun 4/5
  • Cooldown 50 seconds

Tartarus Rage is found during the main mission. It is inside Tyr’s Temple, where you are supposed to fight two bosses – Grendel of the Ashes and the Frost. This one is not skipable, and even if you don’t collect it at this point, you can reclaim at the the blacksmith’s shop.

Fire of Ares

  • A slam attack that sends out a fiery wave.
    • Damage 4/5

Fire of Ares is a reward for the final Brok and Sindri favour, Hail to the King. It is skipable, because it is not part of the main story, and you’ll need to reach the previously locked area in northwestern Midgard, in Konunsgard. This is where you can free one of the Dragons – Reginn. Once you complete the quest, you’ll get the Fire of Ares runic attack, and the Like Oil and Water trophy.

Prometheus Flame

  • A deadly slam attack that creates a small tear under up to 4 enemies before summoning a large pillar of flame beneath them.
    • Damage 3/5
    • Burn 5/5
    • Stun 0/5
  • Cooldown 80 seconds
  • Type Area

Prometheus Flame heavy runic attack is found in the Konunsgard region, where the final Brok and Sindri’s favour takes place. It is within a legendary chest. You’ll get to it once you collect all three keys and enter the stronghold. Once inside, get into the throne room, go behind the throne, through the secret entrance, and right from the waterfall.

Hyperion Slam

  • A massive slam attack that causes a destructive explosion.
    • Damage 4/5
    • Burn 4/5
    • Stun 0/5
  • Cooldown 50 seconds
  • Type Melee

Hyperion Slam is within a legendary chest in the Mountain region. It is behind a locked Blades of Chaos door, on top of the mountain, where the elevator takes you the second time. If you are a bit of an explorer, there is a platform you should climb on. You’ll see a large wooden door, with a giant ogre behind it. He will show up once you tell Atreus to read the sign on the door. Once it is defeated, go down, close to the elevator, and pick up the light pillar inside the small room, behind the wooden planks. Get it close to the platform you climbed. Now go back, and light up the blades, carry them to the pillar, climb on the platform, and use the blades to bring the flame to the other side. This will open the room, and you’ll gain access to the legendary chest and Hyperion Slam heavy runic attack.

Note: if you don’t remember how to get back to this part of the mountain, use the fast travel to reach the summit. From there, head toward the snowy bridge and find a descending path from one of its edges.
