Fortnite BR Patch v4.0 Marks the Beginning of Season 4
Season 4 of Fortnite Battle Royale has started, and Epic Games has released the full patch notes for the update brought it. It’s a hefty thing, with a long list of changes, a handful of new features and fixes to existing issues. If you don’t get a chance to fire up the game before the weekend, you might be interested in hearing what exactly has changed. You can either peruse the full list on the official site, or scroll down for a breakdown of the most imporant points.
For starters, there’s the new battlepass. A hundred tiers of goodies, with fresh, new weekly challenges. This week, one of them involves a treasure map in Tomato Town. The most important change is the comet. A collective sigh of relief is in order, as it didn’t flatten Tilted Towers. Instead, it fell on Dusty Depot, turning it into Dusty Divot.
One of the warehouses was blown to bits, and there’s a giant crater where the comet hit. At the bottom of the crater, there’s an impromptu research station with a heavy Men in Black/Area 51 vibe. There’s also a bunch of crystals scattered around the location – they’re called Hop Rocks, and they can help you defy gravity.
Then there’s the fact that you can now destroy the buildings and objects on the starting island, which should aleviate the pain of waiting for the slowpokes to connect. The headshot mechanics have been redone, prioritizing the head as a target. If you aim for the head and a hand gets in the way, the game will count it as a head shot. Coincidentally, the hitbox on the hands are now smaller than before. You’ll be able to see damage numbers when spectating, too, which will make for a more exciting viewing experience.
