Final Fantasy XV On PC Will Have Mod Support, Tabata Says
Gamescom has been a busy time for Square Enix. First they announced Final Fantasy XV for PC, then they announced Final Fantasy XV for mobile devices. Next up: microwave edition, so that you never get bored waiting for your food to warm up. Actually, no, it’s news about mod support for the PC version.
Speaking to Rock Paper Shotgun, Hajime Tabata talked about their plans for including mod support in the upcoming PC release. It’s all early days still, so he can’t offer any palpable info, but it’s coming along.
I think one of the biggest things players can expect is mod support. We definitely want to do it. We haven’t actually managed to get our full modding policy or discussions on that finished but at the moment we do really want to do it. We’ll have the full details around autumn time.
Whether it’ll be avaialable at launch or only later is still a mystery. Tabata said it mostly depends on how much trouble they run into during development. They want it in as soon as possible, of course. There’s also no mention of how much freedom the mod tools will allow. Expecting the same level of access Bethesda gives modders would probably be too much.
One thing’s for certain – we’re going to get nude mods & character swaps as soon as the tools are out. New haircuts seem plausible, as do new vehicles. Let’s not forget replacing every texture in the game with a picture of Tim Allen or Nicolas Cage. Some players are looking forward to gameplay improvements, like letting you get 3x EXP at places other than that one hotel in that one town, or making chocobos actually have different stats depending on their color.
As the man himself had said, expect more info in the next few months.
