FFXV Magitek Core Locations
Magitek Core is a treasure item needed for upgrading Drillbreaker machinery weapon. Once you get the Drillbreaker and go to Cid, he will give you the A Better Drillbrekaer quest.
Note: If you are a fan of ranged weapons, be sure to check other machinery weapons in our comprehensive Machinery Weapon Locations Guide.
Sooner or later, you’ll get up to the point where the security clearance level 3 card upgrade is needed. This is also the part where you have to “rescue” Prompto. There is a square room at the end of the tunnel that leads to Prompto. It doesn’t have any doors, and by the looks of it, it’s a storage room.
As soon as you enter this room, take a look to your right. The Magitek Core is there, on the ground.
You don’t need to complete the chapter if you want to hand in the Magitek Core. Once you do it though, you’ll need to complete a couple of side quests or hunting quests to get a call from Cid. He will inform you that the Drillbreaker Version 2 is ready.
If you are still wondering where this item is, and you are not in chapter 15, you are in luck. In this guide, we’re going to show you magitek core locations in Final Fantasy XV.

Magitek Core Locations in Final Fantasy XV
The exact location of the Magitek Core is in chapter 13. This is the part of the main story where you end up in Zegnautus Keep. This is a rather large chapter. In order to progress through the story, you’ll have to unlock new areas by completing certain tasks. One of them consists of gathering security clearance levels for your card.Sooner or later, you’ll get up to the point where the security clearance level 3 card upgrade is needed. Another Magitek Core is found at the end of the secret quest – Stealing the Past. You can activate this quest once you get the Flying Regalia. This quest is not marked on the map. You’ll need to find a special window in eastern Lestallum. Interacting with this window, you’ll overhear a conversation that starts the quest. It leads you to the secret dungeon Pitioss and the final quest objective – Magitek Core.
If you are still having problems with getting a call from Cid, be sure to stay at some resting place. This way, several days will pass, and you’ll increase the chances of getting the call from Cid.
Got one killing mechs a base north west of hammerhead
Stealing the past, I don’t get the quest. I have done every quest except Adamantoise. I do have the Type-0. I’m not getting the quest. I checked my log and I haven’t done it. What time was it in this pic?
It was fairly late, around 21:00 (9pm). If you follow the link the text, it will take you to the dedicated quest page, and the YouTube video of it.
Zegnautus Keep is Chapter 13, atleast that’s the first time you are in there and are getting clearance to go up and find Gladiolus and Ignis while Ardyn plays Jigsaw.
I got one as a drop from the battle with the 2 high level mechs (also a hydraulic cylinder) while doing the imperial base side quest northwest of the Weaverwilds.
Same here, got both the Magitek Core and Hydraulic Cylinder after killing the two mechs.
